NC News: Executive Order extends school immunization, health assessment deadlines in response to COVID-19 access disruptions

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper issued Executive Order 156Open PDF extending, but not waiving, proof-of-immunization and health assessment documentation deadlines for school and child-care facilities. With health care visits limited in some cases due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the order will give students and families more time to get their required vaccines and health assessments completed.

iPads passed out, remote learning ramped up as LCPS set to reopen

NCHSAA amended 2020-2021 athletic calendar released

You all have been waiting patiently for a decision from the NCHSAA relative to an amended sport calendar for the 2020-2021 academic year. Please keep in mind that these proposed dates are dependent on COVID-19 conditions improving across NC. However, last night the Board of Directors approved a framework we believe maximizes the opportunities for students in our membership to participate in athletics at some point during this school year, regardless of what plan is a school and/or school system operates.”

Eight third district housing institutions receive $634,401 from HUD in response to COVID-19

On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced grants through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program. This CARES Act HVC Program provides funding to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19, including Mainstream Vouchers, which are specifically for non-elderly people with disabilities.

Michael Spears: Second wave looks to have peaked

This week, we had some progress on the pandemic front, as things started to improve after the stabilization we saw last week. Case growth peaked, at least in the short term, and the case growth rate ticked down. Further, outbreaks in many states are now being contained, as expected. The economic news is better, with the recovery continuing. That said, there are signs of weakness.

As students return to school, North Carolina to remain paused in Phase 2

Governor Roy Cooper today announced that North Carolina will remain paused in Safer At Home Phase 2 for another 5 weeks as students and staff return to schools, colleges and universities and the state doubles down on efforts to decrease COVID-19 numbers.

“Other states that lifted restrictions quickly have had to go backward as their hospital capacity ran dangerously low and their cases jumped higher. We will not make that mistake in North Carolina,” said Governor Cooper.
