Update: Arrest made in November shooting on Vernon Avenue

With assistance from the public, Zion McMillan (20) of Farmville, N.C. was identified as one of the assailants in the November 27th shooting that occurred at 1609-B W. Vernon Ave. Kinston, N.C. Warrants were obtained on McMillan for (2) Counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

On December 16th, 2022, members of the United States Marshals, Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, were able to apprehend McMillan in Pitt County without incident. McMillan has been placed in the Pitt County Detention Center under a secured bond.

On Sunday, November 27th, 2022, at approximately 1:30am, members of the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to a report of shots fired at 1609-B W. Vernon Ave. Kinston, N.C. Upon arrival, officers were met with a large crowd that was present for a party. A short time, later officers located one gunshot victim during a traffic stop on W. Vernon Ave. Kinston, N.C. and a second victim was located at UNC Lenoir. Both victims were suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

The Kinston Police Department is actively working this case. If anyone has information about this incident, please call the Kinston Police Department’s Tips Line at 252-939-4020 or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 252-523-4444. Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous, and the caller may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. This investigation is in the preliminary stages and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Kinston Police Department.
