On June 5, 2026, deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office A Shift responded to the area of Shep Road in reference to an active disturbance.
Following an investigation, deputies determined that Austin Stanley Owens, who was acting as a caretaker at the time, used unreasonable force and had the ability to disengage from the situation. Owens was taken into custody and charged with Felony Assault on an Individual with a Disability.
On January 10, 2025, the Kinston Police Department was notified of an assault on a 6-year-old child by LCPS Central Office . Officers spoke with the child's parents, who had been informed of the incident by Northwest Elementary School. The officers were told that the child's substitute teacher, Martha Jones (69, of Kinston), had hit their child.
Today two men, Joseph Hughes and Clinton Christmas were indicted by a grand jury for first degree murder.
On 10/08/2021 Officers responded to the Gifted Hands Barbershop located at 1500 W. Vernon Ave in regards to an assault. Upon arrival it was determined that three individuals came into the barbershop and assaulted a customer.
The Kinston Police Department has been in contact with Mr. Hill’s family and with the District Attorney’s office. This incident is still an active investigation and officers are conferring with the District Attorney’s office about additional charges.
The Kinston Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the subject in the sketch. The subject is a person of interest related to the assault that occurred at 106 E. Vernon Ave on 01/02/2020. The subject was described as a black male between 20-30 years of age, 5’10” - 6’ 00” tall, and weighing approximately 200 lbs.
Kinston Police Department has obtained arrest warrants for Colby Jamaal Wilson, 24 of Kinston, NC in relation to the Murder and shooting that occurred on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 208 E New Bern Rd. Mr. Wilson is wanted for Murder, Attempted Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill. Anyone that knows the whereabouts of Mr. Wilson or has additional information about this incident is asked to contact the Kinston Police Department.
