Arendell Parrot Academy hosted SCAD professors for special workshops

Arendell Parrot Academy (APA) in Kinston was abuzz with excitement last Friday, May 10, 2024, as it hosted a series of unique workshops conducted by visiting professors from the prestigious Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). This unprecedented event brought a touch of Savannah's renowned art scene directly to the APA campus, providing middle and high school students with an exceptional opportunity to engage with leading figures in the arts and design industry.

Parrott students take Honors in DAR contest

Three Parrott Academy middle school students have won awards in the 2021-22 Daughters of the American Revolution American History Essay Contest. Sixth grader Taylor Woodcock won First Place in District 8, seventh grader Chloe Lewis won Third Place in District 8, and former eighth grader Ezra Zapler won First Place in both District 8 and in the state of North Carolina.

APA Honors Veterans Day

Arendell Parrott Academy honored Veterans Day 2021 with school wide projects, a speaker, recognition of a Patriot, and a series of fine arts performances. On Tuesday, November 9th, classes from first grade to seniors posted veteran-themed displays outside classrooms.

Creepy crawly critter visits APA kids

On Friday October 29th Parrott Academy kindergarteners shivered with fright and delight at an eight-legged visitor straight from a Halloween movie. Aaron Rouse of Kinston brought his tarantula to visit the five-year olds, offering them a blend of fascinating facts and personal anecdotes.

Local students are Parrott AP Scholars

The College Board has designated 17 Lenoir County students attending Arendell Parrott Academy as Advanced Placement Scholars. Avery Johnson, Ashlyn Crocker, Alyssa Kim, Javier Martinez-Rodriguez, Collins Moore, Elizabeth Norris, and Matti Snyder received the AP Scholar designation for taking three or more exams with a score of 3 or higher. Laura Fern Jones and Isha Omer both achieved this honor as sophomores.

College speaker offers insider view to Parrott students

Randy Doss, a veteran college admissions officer and speaker at regional and national workshops, addressed 60 freshmen and parents at Parrott Academy on Monday, September 20th. With opening remarks on “what really happens in college admissions,” Doss stressed the importance of starting early in high school to build a solid foundation. He advised students to challenge themselves with rigorous courses and pay attention to what interests and motivates them. “College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won,” he stated.
