First graders salute Moms with Parrott Mother’s Day Tea

Holding cards that say “I Love U Mom,” first graders welcome their mothers.

Snacks and handmade booklets honored the first grade mothers.

For more than three decades, Parrott Academy first graders have honored their moms with a special Mother’s Day Tea.  This year, the celebration began on May 3rd as the six-year olds welcomed their mothers to the lobby of the school’s gym.  Breaking into smiles, the kids performed a dance to the Meghan Trainor song “Ain’t Nobody Got a Mom Like Mine.”

At the end of the performance, creative movement teachers Amanda Hort and Amy Calhoun invited the mothers to enjoy an encore by dancing with their children.  As the mothers took their seats, each one received a personalized handmade booklet from her child. A snack was provided as the mothers enjoyed their students performing a play about searching for the best Mother’s Day gift ever.

Lou Ann Cooper, a 28-year teaching veteran at APA, said “This tea has been a tradition at least as long as I’ve been here. And it’s always so cute and so special.”
