Evelyn Dove Coleman: Toastmasters To Celebrate

The Kinston Toastmasters Club will celebrate its 75th Anniversary on September 19, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in the Kinston-Lenoir County Library. Toastmasters  International helps members to develop communication and leadership skills for personal and professional  growth. Club membership fosters a supportive environment for members  to hone their skills in a collaborative manner. My late friend Malcolm Beech was enthusiastic about the Kinston Toastmasters Club.

Members practice delivering prepared speeches as well as impromptu responses to table topics. The group provides constructive feedback to each speaker on things such as their body language and their delivery.  Leadership roles rotate so members gain experience being the club officers of Time Keeper, Grammarian, and Host. The invitation from the Secretary Eugene Kuptas states that the door will open at 9 a.m. for those who wish to arrive early.

Public speaking is an activity that serves one well in life.  Being able to communicate well certainly helps in most careers. It also helps in personal relationships to relay thoughts and ideas in clear and direct ways to prevent confusion or misdirection. To that end, Toastmasters seems to me to be a good way for adults to engage in an activity together that is enjoyable and  meaningful. Congratulations are in order for the Kinston Toastmasters Club as it celebrates  three-quarters of a century!
