Back-to-School with Neuse Regional Libraries

As the summer winds down and kids across our region head back to school, Neuse Regional Libraries staff are reflecting on what a busy summer it has been. Over the six weeks of the Unearth a Story Summer Reading Program, 785 participants (ages 0-18) read 164,760 minutes. Across that same age range, the Libraries offered 160 programs with 3,340 in attendance. Little ones stomped and roared like dinosaurs, while enjoying well-loved songs and picture books. School aged participants designed paleontologist hats and baked dinosaur-shaped pizza quesadillas, while the teens survived the lost expedition escape room and crafted resin amber fossil bracelets, just to name a few of the activities participants enjoyed this summer.
Now it is time to return to school and get back to a routine including regular visits to your local library. The Neuse Regional Libraries are excited to offer a weekly series of afterschool programs for school age participants. Afterschool Adventures combines some of our most popular programs with a different monthly theme. Throughout the month, participants will enjoy messy art, edible experiments, crafternoon creation sessions, game nights, and much more. Afterschool Adventures kicks off the week of September 14 at the following Neuse Regional Library locations:
Comfort Public Library - Every 3rd Thursday at 5:30pm
Greene County Public Library - Mondays at 4:00 p.m.
Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library - Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.
La Grange Public Library- Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m.
Maysville Public Library - Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.
Pink Hill Public Library - Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m.
Pollocksville Public Library - Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m.
Trenton Public Library - Thursdays at 4:00 p.m.
Our theme for the month of September is “ It’s Carnival Time!” and participants will enjoy a range of activities from pendulum painting to decorating chocolate covered caramel apple slices to testing balloon rockets and carnival style games. Stop by your local Neuse Regional Library to try the spinning wheel challenge and stay for circus bingo. It is a great time to catch up with old friends and make some new ones as we kick off Afterschool Adventures.
