Neuse Regional Libraries Summer Reading Programs

Neuse Regional Libraries Summer Reading Programs

By Amber Hargett, Head of Youth Services

As the school year comes to a close and summer officially begins, Neuse Regional Libraries are excited to kick off our Summer Reading Programs for youth of all ages. The theme this year is Unearth Your Story, and everyone is invited to join us for a summer filled with dinosaurs, paleontology, and archeology. Whether stomping like dinosaurs or digging for fossils, it is important for kids to keep reading during the summer, both for pleasure and to maintain their reading skills.

The Summer Reading Program is geared for children ages 5-12 and runs from June 15 - July 31. Summer Reading sessions meet weekly and are scheduled as follows:

  • Comfort Public Library - Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.

  • Greene County Public Library - Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m.

  • Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library - Thursdays at 3:00 p.m.

  • La Grange Public Library- Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m.

  • Maysville Public Library - Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.

  • Pink Hill Public Library - Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m.

  • Pollocksville Public Library - Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m.

  • Trenton Public Library - Thursdays at 4:00 p.m.

The week of June 15 is designated as Kick-off Week, and participants will have the opportunity to register for the program during their weekly session and design a paleontologist hat.

The Teen Summer Reading Program is geared towards teens ages 13-17 and also runs from June 15 - July 31. Teen Summer Reading sessions meet weekly and are scheduled as follows:

  • Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library - Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m.

  • La Grange Public Library- Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m.

  • Pink Hill Public Library - Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m.

The Jones County Public Libraries will offer monthly sessions as follows:

  • Pollocksville Public Library - Thursday, June 25 and Thursday July 23 at 4:00 p.m.

  • Trenton Public Library - Wednesday, June 17 and Wednesday, July 15 at 3:00 p.m.

The Teen Summer Reading Program will kick-off with an indoor big screen movie night. Join us in the Schecter Auditorium at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library on Wednesday, June 17 at 4:30 p.m. to watch Jurassic Park. Some stories refuse to stay buried… dig into adventure with us.

Adults can join in the fun too. The Neuse Regional Libraries are also offering a region-wide Adult Summer Reading Program from June 15 to August 15.  Sign up with  Readsquared to earn badges and points all summer. Adults will follow the America250 theme, and there is lots to learn and do.
