Jones County Senior Pantry Continues Through Community Support
TRENTON โ The Jones County Senior Support Coalition continues to operate the Senior Pantry with donations from county employees, residents, businesses, churches and other community partners.
The coalition is a local nonprofit organization that works alongside the Jones County Senior Center to enhance services and opportunities for older adults. The Senior Pantry provides nonperishable food at no charge to local seniors during announced shopping dates throughout the year.
The pantry was initially established using American Rescue Plan Act funding. Although that funding has ended, support from the Senior Support Coalition and the Jones County community has allowed the program to continue.
Jones County employees contribute through a monthly workplace initiative that allows them to wear jeans on Wednesdays when they donate the monthโs featured pantry item. Canned fruit is the featured donation for August.
Community members may also support the pantry throughout the year. Although a different item may be highlighted each month, all nonperishable food donations are welcome.
Suggested donations include:
Canned fruits and vegetables
Soups
Pasta and rice
Peanut butter
Cereal and oatmeal
Shelf-stable milk
Canned meats
Beans
Other nonperishable food
Monetary contributions are also accepted. Financial donations allow pantry volunteers to purchase high-demand items and replenish supplies when shelves begin to run low.
Every donation remains in Jones County and helps the pantry provide local seniors with nutritious food while supporting their health and independence.
Donations are accepted throughout the year through the Jones County Senior Support Coalition. For additional information or to arrange a donation, contact the Jones County Senior Center at 252-448-1001 or visit the center at 147 Francks Field Road in Trenton.
Whether it is a can of fruit, a bag of groceries or a monetary contribution, each donation helps sustain this community-supported resource.
