Obituary: Sandra "Sandy" Hughes Rogers
Sandra "Sandy" Hughes Rogers peacefully left this earth for her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 05, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 6, 1939, in Durham, North Carolina, and raised in Haw River, Sandy was the daughter of William Burlie Hughes and Madge Mixon Hughes. She was the second of nine children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 67 years, James M. "Buddy" Rogers; four brothers; and two sisters.
Sandy dedicated 35 years of her life to Banks Elementary School, where she served as the cafeteria manager. She was also an active member of the Lenoir County Line Dancers for many years and enjoyed participating in the Senior Games. Sandy will be remembered for her delicious cooking, love of line dancing and the love she shared for family & friends. Whether she was preparing a meal for those she loved or dancing with lifelong friends, Sandy found joy in bringing people together
She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, including her three children: Gregory M. Rogers of Kinston, Jo Lynne Bishop of Kinston, and Ron D. Rogers (Sharon) of Grantham. She was the loving “Nanny” of 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park, in Kinston with Pastor Vito Bisogon officiating. The family sincerely appreciates your love and support. In lieu of receiving visitors at the home, they invite family and friends to offer their condolences at the graveside service.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided to both Buddy and Sandy during their most difficult times. A special thank you goes to their nurses Chilly and Lori for their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care.
