Jones County announces new industrial shell building to expand economic opportunity

TRENTON — Jones County is taking a significant step toward strengthening its economic future by developing a new industrial shell building to attract business investment and expand industrial opportunities throughout the county. Funded through a collaborative, multi-partner effort, the project demonstrates a shared commitment to rural economic growth and long-term prosperity.

The industrial shell building at 134 Industrial Park Drive in Trenton will provide 20,000 GSF of modern, market-ready space to support business recruitment and job creation. The project reflects Jones County’s strategic focus on developing competitive industrial product to meet current market demand.

“This project represents a major milestone for Jones County,” said Kyle Smith, Jones County manager. “By investing in infrastructure and working alongside strong partners, we are positioning our county to compete for new opportunities, support existing industry, and create a stronger economic future for our residents.”

Since contracting with Building Prosperity, LLC, in 2024, the Jones County Development Alliance has worked to advance site readiness and develop assets that enhance the county’s ability to attract new businesses. The shell building is a direct result of those efforts and a testament to the power of collaboration.

“Communities have to be proactive to win today’s economic development projects,” said John Bender, economic development director for Jones County. “This building gives Jones County a tangible, competitive advantage. It sends a clear message that we are ready for business, ready for growth, and committed to long-term economic success.”

The project was made possible through partnerships with the Jones County Development Alliance, Building Prosperity, LLC, Jones County, Jones-Onslow EMC, N.C.’s Southeast, North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation, NC East Alliance and the Jones County Committee of 100.

The project celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, and county leaders are already looking ahead.

“This is not the finish line,” Smith added. “It’s the foundation for what comes next.”

Jones County officials emphasize that additional industrial development is already being considered as momentum continues to build.
