Lenoir County Transit proposes fare increases and service reductions
The Lenoir County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. to receive comments on proposed fare increases and service reductions for Lenoir County Transit.
Under the proposal, fares for rural general public transportation and employment transportation would increase from $5 to $7. Elderly and disabled transportation fares would increase from $3 to $5.
Lenoir County Transit is also considering consolidating select routes during operating hours and eliminating Saturday service, except for medically necessary dialysis transportation. County officials said the proposed changes are intended to align operating costs with available revenue.
The commissioners authorized the public hearing during their Aug. 17 meeting. The board will consider the proposed changes after receiving comments from riders, residents, partner agencies and other interested parties.
