Jones County Community Closet receives statewide innovation award

Jones County has received a 2026 Civic Excellence in Innovation Award from the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for the Jones County Community Closet.

The Community Closet was one of 11 projects selected for recognition from 55 applications submitted statewide.

Led by the Jones County Consolidated Human Services team, the initiative provides a community resource supported by county staff, volunteers, local organizations and residents. County officials credited the Harold H. Bate Foundation for providing funding and Civic Credit Union for supporting innovation in county government.

Officials also thanked those who have donated items, shopped, volunteered or helped promote the Community Closet’s mission.

“This recognition proves that even one of North Carolina’s smallest counties can make a powerful statewide impact,” Jones County officials said in the announcement.
