Obituary: Judy Corbett Jones

Mrs. Judy Corbett Jones, age 84, passed away Friday morning, July 31, 2026, at her home surrounded by the love of her family.

A native of Greene County, she was born August 8, 1941, the daughter of the late Woodrow and Hazel Ginn Corbett. Judy was a lifelong resident of Greene County and graduated from the former Snow Hill High School. She continued her education at East Carolina University, where she completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees.

An educator by profession, Judy dedicated thirty-three years to teaching in the North Carolina Public Schools of Wayne and Greene counties, shaping the minds and lives of countless students. Judy was born into a farming family and later married a farmer, deeply intertwining her life with the rhythms of the land. During her summers away from the classroom, she stayed busy cooking lunch daily for the farm hands and always found time to can preserves and jams each season. Her home was a place where everyone was welcome, an invitation that began with the beautiful flowers she loved and kept at her front door.

A woman of deep faith, Judy was a longtime member of Jerusalem Methodist Church, where she was active in many of the church ministries and activities. She bravely battled cancer years prior and faced its return with determination and grace. In the final months of her life, she was able to remain in the house she loved so dearly, filled with beautiful memories and tenderly cared for by her children, sisters, and a granddaughter.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Dean Jones; a granddaughter, Lacey Jones; and brother, Allen “Buster” Corbett.

Her surviving family includes her children, Dean Jones (Lisa), Mark Jones (Tanya) and Holly Jones Little (Joseph); grandchildren, Levi Jones, Marli Jones, Sawyer Jones, Clayton Little and Addison Little; sisters, Betty C. Bunn, Linda C. Rouse, and Dianne C. Davis (Robert); sister-in-law, Irma Corbett; special brother-in-law, Archie Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 2nd, from 3 – 5 PM at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill and other times at the Jones residence.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Monday, August 3rd, at the Chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverend Al Sullivan officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Jerusalem Methodist Church, c/o Bill Chapin, 22 Emily Place, La Grange, NC 28551.
