Obituary: Eva Faye Duke Elmore
SNOW HILL: Mrs. Eva Faye Duke Elmore, age 79, passed away Monday afternoon, August 18th, 2025, at Greendale Forest Nursing and Rehab Center following a brief period of declining health. Born June 19, 1946, Faye lived devoted to her family with quiet strength and fierce independence.
A longtime member of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department where she was a Dispatcher, Faye later joined the NC Department of Corrections retiring as a Correctional Officer. She filled her retirement years as a devoted mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. A fixture of the “Bojangles Club” in Snow Hill, she showered others with goodies from her kitchen including cookies on an individual’s birthday. Known for being a great cook, especially for her desserts, Faye was the consummate baker for special occasions in the lives of those that were special to her. However, Sunday afternoons she devoted herself to her love of sports, especially football; she closed the blinds, gathered her snacks, and watched the games. Faye enjoyed sports and was an avid UNC Tarheels fan.
When her health allowed she attended Grimsley Original Free Will Baptist Church and the Greene County Friends of the Library, always attending its annual dinner and fundraiser.
On January 2, 1996, Faye lost her husband and mate, Joseph “Joe” Allen Elmore.
Her surviving family includes her sons, Glenn Elmore (Jo Ann) of Goldsboro, Lynn Elmore (Michaele) of Brunswick, Georgia, and Allen Elmore (Susan) of New Bern; brothers, Mike Lancaster (Sheila) of Hookerton and Dwight Lancaster (Everlee) of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Matt Elmore, Britni Aaseby, Jason Elmore, Caleb Smith, Ethan Smith, Hannah Smith, Amanda Pritchard, Michael Elmore, Joshua Elmore and Landon Elmore; great-grandchildren, Trevor Camp, Livie Kate Pritchard, Abby Grace Pritchard, and Ava Elmore; and a host of special friends and dear neighbors.
Funeral Services will be held graveside 11 AM Friday, August 22nd, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Keith Phillips officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 PM at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service and other times at Mrs. Elmore’s residence.
