Obituary: Shelby Lyn Haskins VanCor
Shelby Lyn Haskins VanCor, 70, of Kinston, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald VanCor; parents, Linwood and Melba Jean VanCor.
Shelby was a proud graduate of Bethel Atlantic Christian College (Barton), where she developed a lifelong appreciation for learning. One of life’s greatest blessings came when she met the love of her life at the Arts and Crafts Building on Seymour Johnson Air Force base in Goldsboro.
That chance meeting blossomed into a beautiful marriage that spanned 35 wonderful years, filled with love, laughter, and steadfast companionship.
A faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Shelby’s faith was an important part of her life and guided her with grace and compassion. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially crafting, where her creativity shined through in the beautiful things she made. She also had a passion for genealogy, spending countless hours researching and preserving her family’s history for future generations.
Among Shelby’s greatest joys was her beloved dog, Keri, whose companionship brought her endless comfort and happiness.
Shelby will be remembered for her gentle spirit, creative heart, deep love for her family, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. Her memory will be treasured by her husband, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
May her life be celebrated, her faith remembered, and her love live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Shelby is survived by her daughter, Victoria Jean VanCor of Charlotte; son, Marcus VanCor and wife Dawn of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren, Mirissa VanCor and Rayne VanCor; sister, Sheron Haskins Jenkins and partner Kenny Ferguson of Trenton; nephews, Brad Bell and wife Amanda of Pollocksville and Scott Bell and wife Amber of Pollocksville; great niece, Emilia Bell of Pollocksville; great nephews, Emmett Bell and Jackson Bell of Pollocksville and Tucker Trivette. She is also survived by her partner, Jeff Tilghman. Last but certainly not least, Shelby is survived by her beloved poodle, Keri VanCor.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, with Pastor Ruffin Hill officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
