Obituary: Robert Edward "Bob" Taylor

Mr. Robert Edward “Bob” Taylor, age 89, passed away late Friday evening, July 10, 2026, at UNC Lenoir Hospital. A native of Greene County, he was born March 22, 1937, the son of Willie James and Sadie Beaman Taylor.

Bob, as he was best known, was a veteran of the US Army having served from 1957 – 1959 training to be a paratrooper before a limitation with his vision prevented him from “jumping”.

Professionally, he served as the plant manager of the former Granite Glove in Snow Hill, and later as a superintendent in the construction industry. Always civic minded, he was a longtime member of the Hookerton Fire Department which led to his eventual service with the Town of Hookerton. He was first elected as a Commissioner with the Town of Hookerton prior to being elected as Mayor, a post he served in for 17 years. While the Mayor’s position was technically a part-time position, for Bob it was a full-time passion. He was a tireless advocate for the town and never ceased in his search for funding in critical needs ranging from infrastructure to economic development.

Bob was a longtime member of Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church and had served as the Junior Church Pastor for many years. It is only fitting that his service will be held in both the church and town he so dearly loved.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Adelle Howell, Hazel Mitchell, Moleen Pender, Hardy Taylor, James “Bud” Taylor, Parrott Taylor, Chester Howell, B.J. Taylor, and Douglas Taylor.

His surviving family includes his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Clemmons Taylor; son, Charles Robert Taylor and wife, Traci of Winterville; daughter, Sheri Elaine Taylor of Hookerton; grandchildren, Brittany Taylor, Shane Taylor, and Ethan Taylor, all of Winterville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, July 14th, at Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Rice officiating. Committal services will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the committal service on Tuesday and other times at the Taylor residence in Hookerton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to Mt. Calvary FWB Church, PO Box 250, Hookerton, NC 28538. Condolences may be expressed at www.taylor-tyson.com
