Juvenile charged in South Street shooting that left teen seriously injured
CASE UPDATE
As a result of the ongoing investigation into the June 24, 2026, shooting on South Street, the following individuals have been charged:
15-year-old female juvenile
Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury
Possession of a Handgun by a Minor
Discharging a Firearm Within the City Limits
Helen Nicole Howard, 20, of Kinston
Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (4 counts)
Howard was also served with two unrelated Orders for Arrest.
This investigation remains active, and additional arrests are expected.

Previous Release
On June 24, 2026, at approximately 11:20 p.m., the Kinston Police Department responded to a residence on South Street following reports that a 17-year-old juvenile had been shot.
Officers arrived on scene and immediately provided medical aid to the victim. Investigators responded to process the scene, collect evidence, and conduct interviews.
The victim remains in serious condition.
At the time of the initial release, one adult and one juvenile had been taken into custody as the investigation continued.
