Obituary: Reb Lancaster
Reb Lancaster peacefully passed away on June 10th, 2026 at his home in Angier, surrounded by loved ones, after a long, hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 72. We suspect he is already in heaven, lecturing the angels on the proper way to detail a tour bus.
Born on June 19, 1953, in Kinston, NC, Reb grew up to attend Granger High School, where he anchored the varsity football team as Center. That early love for the gridiron morphed into a lifelong devotion to the Pittsburgh Steelers—a devotion that tested his patience and blood pressure during even their most brutal seasons. But his greatest victory came off the field. As a teenager, he reunited with his childhood acquaintance, Debbie Taylor. When he first asked her to wear his class ring, Debbie promptly turned him down. Fortunately for his future children, Reb possessed a stubborn persistence. He wore her down, won her over, and they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage.
Reb’s career was a masterclass in music, entertainment, and diesel engines. He traveled the country playing bass guitar for the Dixie Melody Boys and The Hoppers, before transitioning to driving motor coaches for legendary artists like Anthony Burger, Vince Gill, and Stevie Wonder. While Reb loved the music and the artists, everyone knew his true passion was the buses—specifically, a spotless bus. Woe to anyone who tracked mud onto his coach or sprayed too much hairspray. While logging thousands of miles on the highway, Reb stayed fiercely connected to Debbie by creating and sending her playlists of love songs. Even when medically forced to retire from the road, his passion for buses and sound production never waned.
Reb never met a stranger. If he walked into a room full of people he didn't know, he was guaranteed to leave with at least one new best friend, having talked their ear off in the process. He was a deeply devoted family man and a faithful servant of the Lord. In his final years, Reb mastered the art of relaxation, thoroughly enjoying his time with his family, his dedicated lap-dog Miles, and marathoning Family Feud.
Reb was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Charles and Evelyn Lancaster; his sister, Barbara Lancaster; his brother, Charles Lancaster; his in-laws, Leonard and Betty Taylor; and his niece, Amy Witherington and nephews, Chris Harrison and Chris Williams.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and pristine vehicles, survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Lancaster; his daughters, Shannon Lambdin (and husband, Dave) and Elizabeth Lancaster (and husband, James Pridgen); his grandchildren, who hung the moon, Duncan Lambdin, Evan Pridgen, and Maddy Pridgen; and his in-laws, Bob and Lynn Edwards, Harriett Lancaster, and Frank Harrison. Sincerest thank you for the loving care provided by Heartland Hospice, especially his caretakers Denise and Tomika, and support from our friends and family.
A celebration of Reb’s loud, joyful, and beautifully lived life will be held at 11:00 am on June 13, 2026, at Hilltop Church in Fuquay Varina, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hilltop Baptist Church at 10212 Fayetteville Rd, Fuquay Varina, NC 27526.
