Upcoming LCC Graduate Lisa Ball Shows That It Is Never Too Late to Further Your Education

By: Cailyn Kennedy

Returning to school can feel overwhelming, especially when life is already full of responsibilities. Upcoming LCC graduate Lisa Ball’s story is an inspiring reminder that it is never too late to invest in yourself and pursue your goals. For anyone who wonders whether they can balance family, work, and college, Lisa shows that with determination and support, it is possible to keep moving forward and create new opportunities.

Lisa is a devoted wife and mother of five children, three of her own and two stepchildren, raising four energetic boys and one spirited little girl. In addition to caring for her family, she works full-time as an office manager at Principle Long Term Care. Her days are filled with work responsibilities, school assignments, children’s activities, and the everyday demands of family life. Even with so much on her plate, Lisa has remained committed to her education.

As an online student at Lenoir Community College, Lisa was able to take advantage of the flexibility needed to balance her many responsibilities. The ability to complete coursework on her own schedule allowed her to continue working full-time while being present for her family. Along the way, she found a supportive environment that helped her grow in confidence and stay focused on her goals. She has maintained a 3.246 GPA, reflecting both her dedication and strong work ethic.

Lisa’s instructor and sister, Business Administration Program Chair Kristy Grady, has had a unique perspective on her journey. Grady said, “Lisa’s story is a powerful example of what determination and resilience can achieve. As her sister, I could not be more proud of the way she has balanced being a devoted mother of five, a full-time professional, and a dedicated student with such grace and perseverance. Her success at Lenoir Community College reflects not only her hard work, but also the confidence and purpose she has built along the way, showing her children, and all of us, what is truly possible.”

For Lisa, returning to school has strengthened her skills and opened new doors for her. She said, “As a full-time mom and employee, LCC has provided me with valuable skills and knowledge that enhance my ability to balance both roles effectively. The support and connections I’ve built here have also empowered me to pursue my career goals while nurturing my family.”

Lisa’s story resonates because it reflects the reality many students face—balancing work, family, and personal responsibilities while striving for something more. Her experience shows that success is not about a perfect path, but about continuing forward with determination and purpose.

Lenoir Community College will celebrate its 64th commencement at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, in the Student Center. More than 400 graduates are eligible to receive degrees this year. Admission to the ceremony is by ticket only as seating is limited. For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be livestreamed on the College’s website at www.lenoircc.edu.
