Obituary: Barbara Mitchell Grady
Barbara Mitchell Grady, age 83, of Kinston, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at UNC Health Lenoir. Barbara was born in Pitt County on June 8, 1942, to Eber and Martha Mitchell. They predeceased her in death.
She was retired as payroll clerk from Glen Raven Mills in Kinston. Barbara was a member of the Grifton FWB Church in Grifton. Her interests were Sudoku puzzles and working in her beautiful yard. She had a great passion for genealogy.
Her best decision was accepting Jesus as her Savior on November 15, 1962. Her greatest joy was her family. She married Gene Grady on October 1, 1960. They were married for 60 years until his death.
She loved and depended on her daughters and the men they married. Daughter, Pam, married Tim Cobb. Pam died in 2025. Daughter Vicki married Jai Park. Her love and pride deepened with the gift of her grandchildren, Jordan (Katie) Cobb, Bethany (Quinten) Kinsey, Rachel (Tim) Cook, Matthew and Andrew Park.
Her further delight was her great grandchildren. They are Gavin Cobb, Kenleigh, Adelynn, and Vivianne Cook. Barbara loved her siblings. Sisters, Iris Davis, and Dorothy Harris predeceased her in death. So did her brothers, Van Mitchell, Sr. and Eber “Mitch” Mitchell. Surviving are sisters, Letha Buck, Shirley Dennis, Diane Thomas, and Laverne Atwell.
Visitation will be held from 11 am until 12 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Howard and Carter Funeral Home in Kinston. Funeral service will follow at 12 pm with Rev. Danny Barrow officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Kinston.
