NCDOT Announces 2026 Bicycle Helmet Initiative Grant Recipients

RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation Integrated Mobility Division (IMD) has announced the 2026 grant recipients of the Bicycle Helmet Initiative, a program focused on improving bicycle safety and promoting helmet use among riders of all ages statewide.

This year, 184 organizations from across North Carolina will receive helmets to support distribution efforts, safety education, and community outreach. The recipients include local governments, schools, nonprofit organizations and public health agencies, all working together to reduce injuries and save lives by increasing helmet use.

The Bicycle Helmet Initiative aims to address safety by ensuring access to properly fitted helmets and providing education on safe riding practices. These helmets will support helmet giveaways, safety workshops, and partnerships with local stakeholders to expand awareness and encourage behavior change.
