Lenoir County Public Schools is proud to announce that Nadine Gordon, a Career & Technical Education teacher at Kinston High School, has been named a nominee for the NCCAT 2027 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Career & Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year Award.
This nomination places Gordon among an outstanding group of educators from across North Carolina, each recognized for their innovation, passion, and impact on student success.
“Ms. Gordon exemplifies the very best of Career and Technical Education through her dedication to students, her leadership, and her unwavering commitment to excellence,” LCPS CTE Director Dr. Amy Jones said.
“As a Counseling and Mental Health teacher at Kinston High School, Ms. Gordon creates a classroom environment rooted in care, respect, and high expectations. Ms. Gordon also serves as an advisor for the FCCLA Career and Technical Student Organization,” Jones explained. “Under her leadership, students have made positive impacts on their community through service projects and have consistently excelled at the regional and state levels, with students qualifying for national competition as well. We are proud to have Ms. Gordon as our NCCAT CTE Teacher of the Year nominee.”
The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and the North Carolina Association for Career and Technical Education (NCACTE), developed the CTE Teacher of the Year award to honor remarkable CTE educators and emphasize the importance of CTE instruction in North Carolina schools.
"Hiring Ms. Gordon is, without question, one of the best human resources decisions I have made as a school leader,” KHS Principal, Kellan Bryant, said. “She possesses a rare combination of professional excellence, authentic care for students, and natural leadership ability. Students are drawn to her by her energy, her consistency, her encouragement, and her unmatched ability to connect with any student, regardless of
background or circumstance. Her classroom is a place where students feel valued, supported, and challenged to be their best."
From the statewide district and charter school nominees, 24 educators, three from each of North Carolina's eight regions, will be selected as regional finalists through a rigorous portfolio review process. The 24 finalists will attend a week of leadership-focused professional development and attend a recognition event to honor them and announce the NCCAT 2027 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year.
“We are incredibly proud of Ms. Gordon for this well-deserved recognition,” Superintendent Brent Williams said. “Her dedication to CTE and her commitment to preparing students for success beyond the classroom truly reflect the strength of our programs and the impact of our educators across Lenoir County Public Schools.”
