DOT removes extra traffic signal, installs concrete median at Vernon Ave and Pecan Lane

Drivers on Vernon Avenue in Kinston should expect lane closures and a changed traffic pattern today as the N.C. Department of Transportation installs a concrete median island near Hull Road and Pecan Lane.

According to a TIMS alert, three of five lanes are scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Vernon Avenue between mile markers 1.0 and 1.1 near Hull Road.

The road work involves installation of a concrete channelization island in the center lane of Vernon Avenue. According to information shared with Neuse News, the change is intended to prohibit left turns from Pecan Lane onto Vernon Avenue and eastbound left turns from Vernon Avenue into Pecan Lane.

The traffic signal phase that had been used for Pecan Lane traffic has also been removed, meaning drivers can no longer make a left turn out of Pecan Lane.
