Downeast Christian Music Festival returns to Pearson Park on April 18
The Down East Christian Music Festival will return to Pearson Park in Kinston on April 18, bringing an afternoon and evening of gospel and positive-message music to the city.
Organizer Allen Oneal said the program will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will feature a lineup that includes Jackson Heights, Jeff and Sheri Easter, Carolina The Band and Small Town Sunday.
Oneal described Jeff and Sheri Easter as a well-known group recognized through the Gaither series seen on television, while Carolina The Band offers a sound that may appeal to fans of the Oak Ridge Boys.
In addition to the music, this year’s festival will also include a patriotic element tied to America’s 250th anniversary. He asked each group performing at the festival to include at least one patriotic song in its set.
The event is designed to offer more than just church music with songs centered on uplifting and encouraging messages.
“What I’m hoping to get out of it is that they get a good, positive day,” he said. “We’ve seen Christian music, but all the music isn’t necessarily church music, but it’s just good, positive lyrics to make people feel good, and we hope we can change somebody’s life in this four and a half hour period of the concert.”
Food trucks will also be on site during the festival. Familes are encouraged to come out and enjoy the evening.
“All you gotta do is just bring your kids, your lawn chair, and your ears ready to listen to some good music,” he said.
The festival will be held at Pearson Park in Kinston. This is a free event.
