Lions’ Strides walk raises more than $12,000, highlights pageant volunteers

The annual Strides walk continues to bring community support to diabetes awareness efforts in Kinston, with this year’s event raising more than $12,000 so far and still accepting donations, according to Strides Chair Sharon Axelberg.

Axelberg said Miss North Carolina attended the event and performed the national anthem to open the walk. She said Miss Teen Dunn, Kamryn Harrison, Carolina Star and other members of the Miss Teen North Carolina court also volunteered throughout the event, helping with face painting, coloring contests and other activities.

Axelberg said their involvement helped make the event a success as organizers worked to raise awareness and support for diabetes patients.

The Strides event has become a recurring local fundraiser connected to Lions-led diabetes awareness efforts in Kinston. Previous Neuse News coverage has highlighted the event’s role in raising money for diabetes-related support, including camp scholarships and assistance for patients and schools.
