Obituary: Fred Roswell Cullipher

Mr. Fred Roswell Cullipher born September 20, 1934, the only child of Roger and Thenia Hobbs Cullipher, died on March 30, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Fred grew up in Bertie County on the family farm, was educated in the Bertie County Schools, and continued his post-secondary education at Campbell College and Carson Newman University.

He enjoyed traveling across the United States. With an aunt and cousin, Fred drove across the country to California, sightseeing along the way. He enjoyed many trips to the mountains with family and friends.

After farming with his dad and teaching school for a few years, he began a career in social work with the Greene County Department of Social Services. He retired at an early age and enjoyed many activities, such as cooking, a bit of woodworking, yard work, and gardening.

He married Eleanor Wells Suggs on November 5, 1965. The couple had two sons, Robert L. Suggs and Timothy L. Suggs (Robin); and a daughter, Lisa Cullipher Deputy (Jon), all surviving. Also, surviving is his wife, Eleanor Cullipher; four grandchildren: Ezra Mooring, Kimberly Hope Richardson (Tyler), Robert Tyler Suggs (Ashley), and Jonathan R. Deputy; and two great-granddaughters, Meilani and Kaiya Richardson. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Kimberly M. Suggs.

Fred was a long-time member of Eden Christian Church. He served his God in many capacities, including teaching, singing, playing the piano and other leadership roles. He lived his life exhibiting his faith and love of God every day.

Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, April 1st, at the Chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Jerry Pike officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

The family will greet friends in the hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:50 PM at the funeral home and other times at the Cullipher residence.
