KPD Arrests Two Following Stabbing

On March 1, 2026, KPD’s A-Squad responded to a residence at the Mitchell Wooten Apartments in reference to a reported stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers located 36-year-old Katelyn Cook and 26-year-old Michael Sutton suffering from lacerations. Officers immediately rendered aid until Lenoir County EMS arrived on scene.

During the course of the investigation, officers determined that Cook and Sutton were intoxicated and engaged in a physical altercation in which both individuals stabbed each other with a kitchen knife. Investigators also determined that an 8-year-old juvenile was present during the incident.

After both suspects were medically cleared, they were taken into custody and transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where they were each charged with the following:

- Assault with a Deadly Weapon with a Minor Present

- Assault with a Deadly Weapon

- Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence

Both individuals were placed in the Lenoir County Jail without bond.
