Obituary: Ralph Osborne Creech
January 12, 1947 – March 27, 2026
Snow Hill-Ralph Osborne Creech, 79, went to be with his Lord on Friday afternoon, March 27, 2026. Ralph was born in Lenoir County to the late James Osborne Creech and Nancy Johnson Dail on January 12, 1947.
A 1965 graduate of Grainger High School, Ralph was affectionately known as “Roll,” a nickname earned during his high school years because he was always ready to “rock and roll”, both in his love of music and his eagerness to hit the road and roam.
Ralph cherished many fond memories of growing up in his neighborhood, where he shared joyful times with cousins, formed lifelong friendships, and built values that stayed with him throughout his life. Among those friendships was one that would later lead to a cherished family connection as a brother-in-law.
Under the guidance of his father at Creech’s Cafeteria, along with the exceptional influence of his mother at home, Ralph developed into an excellent cook in his own right.
Ralph faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for four years and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He carried a deep and enduring sense of patriotism throughout his life. Known for never meeting a stranger, Ralph traveled many miles, taking great joy in what he often called “the beauty of God’s creation.” Of all the places he experienced, none held a greater place in his heart than the Great Smoky Mountains, riding the parkway with his love, Angie.
Though he never had formal musical training, Ralph possessed an extensive knowledge of many musical genres, with bluegrass remaining his favorite. He loved sports, especially college basketball, and enjoyed spending time fishing. He also took pride in being a connoisseur of collards and excellent food.
A man blessed with a remarkable photographic memory and keen intellect, Ralph had an extraordinary ability to recall facts instantly and had a natural aptitude for working with numbers. He retired after twenty-five years of service as a Farm Service Agent with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Deborah Sutton and Rev. Robert Flynn officiating (casual dress welcomed). Committal will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal, and other times at the home of Vivian and Wesley Sutton.
Ralph is survived by his beloved companion of 21 years, Angela “Angie” Rouse; son, Jason Creech and his children, Eric Creech, Sara E. Creech, all of Muncie, Indiana, and Kye Murphy of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, Steve Creech (Janie); sisters, Vivian Creech Sutton (Wesley), Wini Creech Ward (Lloyd), and Kathy Creech Paramore (Darwin); Angie’s family: son Brandon (Deidre) and grandson Jacob of Snow Hill, and her brothers, Randy Morris and Dock Seymour; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
