Evelyn Dove Coleman: Stand Up Straight
A prayer partner Minister Linda Greene of New Bern asked me to write about an experience with a flower. A neighbor rang my door bell one day and she and her daughter stood there with a flower to give to me as a a gift. First the flower was a bulb with long roots hanging down already, ready to plant in soil. But it was housed in a beautiful little glass vase to keep it in. So I set it on a table in a room by the window.
Alas, one day I walked into that room with my new flower to find it had begun to bloom. The pink blossoms made my day! I took a picture and sent it to Eliza and Julia. A few days later, when I entered that room, the pink blossom had begun to hang about halfway over. In an attempt to save it from breaking, I tied a ribbon around the stalks to hold them up.
I expected it to stay that way; however, in a day or so, the plant had begun to stand up straight. What a miracle it seemed to be. Life is like my plant. Events or situations can have us feeling bent over with little hope. The sunshine and the rain, though, can pour down upon us like rays and showers of blessings. Then we stand up straight with gratitude for those who held us up.
