Kinston woman charged after reported stabbing during dispute, police say

On February 27, 2026, at approximately 8:10 a.m., KPD's C-Squad officers responded to a reported disturbance involving a possible stabbing at a residence.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male victim and 26-year-old Tyshika Coward. During the investigation, officers determined that the victim and Ms. Coward were involved in a verbal dispute. The altercation escalated when Ms. Coward allegedly confronted the victim and stabbed him in the abdomen with a butcher knife, resulting in injury.

The victim was treated on scene by Lenoir County EMS and transported to UNC Lenoir Health Care for further medical treatment.

Ms. Coward was taken into custody and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. She was processed and transported to the Lenoir County Jail.
