Kinston’s National Night Out brings community and first responders together
Kinston residents and city employees gathered for National Night Out, bringing the community together with police officers and firefighters to strengthen relationships.
City Councilman Sammy Aiken welcomed attendees and praised the turnout and cooperation between residents and law enforcement.
“It’s got a nice turnout and community and police working together, and it’s a great, great thing,” Aiken said.
City Manager Jon Mendenhall emphasized the partnerships at the heart of the event and thanked city employees for supporting the community.
“This event is all about community, and the way we work with the community and work together in partnership,” Mendenhall said.
He recognized the police department, fire department and other city employees who attended.
“We just welcome and appreciate everyone for being here,” he said.
Police Chief Goyette said the event gives officers an opportunity to connect with the people they serve.
“National Night Out is a great event and a perfect example of what makes Kinston special,” Goyette said. “It gives our officers a chance to spend time with the people we serve, build relationships, and just enjoy being together as a community.”
Goyette also thanked those who attended and helped make the event a success.
Sgt. Biggins said spending time with residents outside of calls for service helps build meaningful connections.
“It gives us a chance to talk, laugh, build relationships, and just enjoy being together,” Biggins said. “That connection means a lot to us.”
