Obituary: Karen Sue Moye

Karen Sue Moye, 62, of Hugo, NC, passed away on October 8, 2026, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Once you met Karen, you quickly became her friend.

Karen was born on October 27, 1963, and grew up in LaGrange, North Carolina. Her love of farming began when she worked for her uncle, Buren Hart, and she went on to spend many years working for Ham Farms. On Sundays, you could guarantee she would be watching the NASCAR race and pulling for her favorite driver, Chase Elliott. She also loved music, especially country music, and enjoyed going to hear live music. She loved going to see Dakota Blue and being a member of the “Blue Crew.” Wherever Karen was, she always had a Diet Mountain Dew close by. She enjoyed the things she loved and didn't need much to be happy.

If you were friends with Karen, you probably knew her as “Radio.” The nickname fit her perfectly because she loved to talk! She always had something to say, and those who knew her will remember the conversations, stories, and time spent together. Her coworkers at Ham Farms affectionately called her “Big Mama.” She loved her coworkers and treasured the memories she made with them over the years.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna Moye; her brother, Danny Moye; and her loyal canine companion, Jarrett.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Debbie Moye; her nephews, Bill Moye and his wife, Mara, and Josh Moye and his wife, Suzanna; her great-nephews, Jake and Jamie Moye; and her great-nieces, Harper and Laura Jane Moye. She also leaves behind several special cousins, Wanda Hart Olschner, Paula McCoy, and Tammy Howard, along with many other cousins and dear friends. Her beloved dog, Oreo, held a special place in her heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at The Farm at 4484, located at 4484 Norbert Hill Road, LaGrange, NC 28551. Family and friends are invited to come together to share stories, remember Karen, and celebrate her life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Lenoir County Emergency Services for their prompt response, tireless efforts, and dedication.
