Jones County Woman Arrested Following Copper Theft Investigation

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, a Jones County woman was arrested following an investigation into multiple copper thefts that occurred in Lenoir County.

Virginia Stancill, 44, was served with an outstanding warrant for arrest as a result of an investigation conducted by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office General Investigations Division. The investigation revealed Stancill’s involvement in several incidents involving the theft of nonferrous metals.

Stancill has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Four counts of Breaking and/or Entering

  • Four counts of Injury to Property to Obtain Nonferrous Metal

  • One count of Attempted Obtaining Property by False Pretense

  • One count of Felony Conspiracy

Stancill is currently being held at the Lenoir County Jail without bond pursuant to a PIA hold.
