By Phebe Cantey, Youth Services Assistant
Have you ever dreamed of recording your own music or trying your hand at voice acting? Perhaps you’re considering launching a YouTube channel, starting a podcast, or producing a commercial to promote your small business. Possibly, you've always been curious about exploring digital art, video editing, or audio production, but didn’t know where to start. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced creator, Neuse Regional Libraries invites you to explore your creativity at the Digital Media Lab, located inside the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.
The Digital Media Lab is a fully equipped creative space designed for a wide range of digital content creation and production. Here, community members can learn to produce music, spoken-word recordings, video content, and digital artwork using professional-grade tools and software. Whether you want to record a podcast, shoot a vlog, edit a short film, or simply experiment with new media, the lab provides a supportive environment where imagination and technology come together.
The Digital Media Lab’s production studio features high-quality microphones, audio interfaces, and various jacks for connecting instruments or other devices. For video creators, the space includes digital cameras, lighting equipment, and green screen capabilities to help bring your vision to life. There’s also access to industry-standard editing software for both audio and video, and trained staff will assist you with setup, troubleshooting, and even guidance on your creative process.
If you’re unsure where to begin, you can schedule a session to tour the lab, test out the equipment, and receive a one-on-one orientation with a trained staff member. Our goal is to make this space as accessible as possible, regardless of your level of experience. Whether you’re pursuing a personal passion project, building your portfolio, or looking for a way to expand your business’s marketing efforts, the Digital Media Lab provides the tools and support you need to succeed.
Time slots for the lab are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and again from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., as well as Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month.
