Kinston City Council to formalize $40,000 for lobbying services
The Kinston City Council will consider an operating budget amendment Tuesday that includes a $40,000 appropriation for professional lobbying services.
The funding would support a previously approved contract with Checkmate Government Relations, which will represent the city’s interests before the North Carolina General Assembly and other government entities beginning Feb. 1. The agreement includes a monthly fee of $7,500, plus registration and reimbursable expenses.
According to budget documents, the $40,000 allocation will be funded through appropriated fund balance in the city’s general fund. The appropriation appears as part of a broader operating budget amendment totaling $64,300 in general fund adjustments.
The lobbying contract was approved by the outgoing City Council in December, prior to newly elected council members being sworn in. The January budget amendment formally allocates funding to cover a portion of the contract during the current fiscal year.
The Kinston City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at City Hall, located at 200 N. Queen St. The meeting is open to the public.
