Greene County to move forward with scaled-back $1 million water system chlorine conversion
The Greene County Board of Commissioners will consider awarding a construction contract for a major water system improvement project that converts several wells from gas chlorine to liquid chlorine disinfection.
The original low bid for the project totaled $1.8 million, which exceeded available funding. After negotiations, the project scope was reduced, bringing the construction cost to $1.044 million.
Under the revised plan, chlorine conversion will move forward at wells 3, 4, 7, and 9B. Wells 8, 10, and 12A were removed from the project to reduce costs and will continue operating with gas chlorine.
The project is fully funded through grants, including $691,500 from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and $691,500 in American Rescue Plan Act funding. No county loan funding is required.
Commissioners will be asked to adopt a resolution amending the capital project budget and tentatively awarding the contract to Laughlin-Sutton Construction Company, pending state approval. The Greene County Board of Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the Greene County Operations Center, located at 229 Kingold Blvd. in Snow Hill. The meeting is open to the public.
