Obituary: Louise Hughes Hodges

Louise Hughes Hodges of Dover, North Carolina left her earthly home on September 24, 2025. She was born on November 22, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee to James “Jim” Patrick and Louise Walker Hughes.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 59 years, Billy Wilson Hodges.

She is survived by her three children; daughters Theresa Hodges of Dover, Kathryn Perkins and husband Troy of Winterville, NC; son James “Jim” Hodges and wife Karin of Creedmoor, NC; four grandchildren: Emily Perkins Hudson and husband Josh and Elizabeth Perkins, all of Winterville, NC; Seth Hodges and Rebecca Hodges of Creedmoor, NC. She was the very proud “Grammy” of great-daughter Finley Kathryn Hudson of Winterville, NC. She is also survived by her sister Ann Hughes McColl of Rexford, NY and sisters-in-laws; Sue Hodges Wilkinson of Pfafftown, NC and Linda Hodges Hicks of Raleigh, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Grainger High School, class of 1954 and upon graduation attended and completed a two-year degree from Georgetown Visitation in Washington, DC. She worked in Washington, DC for a year before returning to Kinston, NC where she met her husband, Billy. She worked by Billy’s side as a farmer’s wife for 25 years. During those years, they raised their three children and enjoyed traveling in the “off” season. She joined the Dover United Methodist Church, which she faithfully served teaching adult Sunday School and working wherever she was needed. She was a member of the Craven County Extension Homemakers, serving in various positions. She was also a member of the Dover United Methodist Women, Josphine Circle. She served many years as New Bern District United Methodist Women Secretary and President. In her later years she became an avid reader and enjoyed her time at the Cove City Library. She sewed, cross-stitched, knitted and crocheted through the years. She crocheted many Prayer shawls; lap throws and baby blankets for people in our community. During COVID, several trips were made to the Ronald McDonald House in Greenville, where she gifted many baby blankets, as well as lap throws to the NC Veterans Home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all her caregivers in the last few months from Bayada Home Health, especially Azaria Jenkins and in the final weeks Pruitt Health Palliative and Hospice Care.

Private Internment October 10, 2025, Pinelawn Memorial Park at 2:00 pm

Visitation at the Dover Methodist Church October 11, 2025, at 10:00 am followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 am with Rev. Clint White officiating
