Obituary: Ginger J. Taylor

Ginger J. Taylor, beloved mother, grandmother, nurse, and woman of steadfast faith, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC, after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer. She was 77.

Born on November 23, 1947, Ginger lived a life marked by compassion, strength, and devotion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Tank” Taylor, and is survived by her loving children, Kevin Johnson and wife Lauranne, with their children Drew Tompson and Laynie Johnson; her son Butch Johnson and wife Bobbie, with their children Lucas and Rowan; and her daughter Ginna Hunnings and her husband JR, with their children Dylan, Zachary, and Caitlyn. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Ginger retired from her nursing career at Caswell Center in Kinston, where she was known for her gentle care and dedication. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she was an active member of Faith Fellowship in Kinston, where she found joy in serving and connecting with her church family.

A proud graduate of Grainger High School’s Class of 1965, Ginger treasured her weekly lunches with the “Lunch Bunch” crew. She also found comfort in crocheting, specially making hats for newborns at UNC Lenoir—often crafting them during her chemotherapy treatments.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Southeastern Medical Oncology for their compassionate care over the past eight years, and to the staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their kindness and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Fellowship in Kinston, North Carolina, on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Visitation with the family begins at 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC, in honor of Ginger’s memory and the comfort they provided to her and her family.

Arrangements made by Edwards Funeral Home & Cremations. Online condolences may be expressed at www.edwardsfhc.com.
