Traveling art auction to benefit Kinston park redesign

A traveling silent auction featuring an original oil painting of the Neuse River will make its way across Kinston during October, with proceeds supporting the redesign of the Buddy and Mary Mac Ritch All American City Park.

The work, titled Neuse River, was created by North Carolina artist Charles Kane and will be displayed at multiple locations throughout the city to give residents and collectors a chance to place bids.

The first public viewing will be Sept. 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kinston Rotary Club, held at King’s Restaurant on U.S. 70. From there, the painting will travel to additional sites in October.

Downtown Kinston Revitalization, which organized the auction, said the fundraiser is part of its broader efforts to invest in public spaces and community projects.

Leon Steele, executive director of Downtown Kinston Revitalization, said the event highlights how art can play a direct role in shaping Kinston’s future.

“The painting is absolutely beautiful!” said Steele. We are extremely grateful for Mr. Kane’s wonderful gesture to donate it to our non-profit to auction it as a fundraiser to help transform an forgotten space downtown into something useful and appealing for all to enjoy.”

All proceeds will go toward redesigning the All American City Park, a project organizers say will benefit generations of Kinstonians.

Updates on the auction schedule, viewing locations, and bidding opportunities will be shared through Downtown Kinston Revitalization’s social media.
