Former Kinston officer arrested in SBI larceny investigation

On Wednesday, June 04, 2025, the Lenoir County District Attorney’s Office requested the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) to investigate the suspected larceny of money from a citizen by a Kinston Police Department officer during a vehicle accident that occurred in May of 2024. On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Daquante Cortez Jones was arrested for one count of Larceny from the Person and one count of Altering, Destroying, or Stealing Criminal Evidence for actions conducted while performing his duties with the Kinston Police Department. Jones was released from the Lenoir County Magistrate's Office under a $5,000 Bond. Jones’ first appearance will be tomorrow, August 21, 2025.
