Candidate filing opens for 2025 municipal elections in Lenoir and Greene Counties
Candidate filing is underway for the 2025 municipal elections, with residents across Lenoir and Greene counties preparing to choose new local leaders. Filing began Monday, July 7, and will continue through noon on Friday, July 18. The election will take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
In Lenoir County, five candidates have filed so far. Sitting Mayor Dontario Hardy is seeking another term leading the City of Kinston. Ashley Brooke Kornegay has filed for a City Council seat in Kinston. In La Grange, three candidates—Anthony Hall, Roger Miles, and Noah Clark—have filed to run for seats on the Town Board of Commissioners.
In Greene County, four candidates have entered the race in Snow Hill. S. Courtney Harrell, R. Dylan Potter, and Deborah Harper are running for Town Commissioner, while Dianne Jones Andrews is seeking the mayor’s seat. Incumbent Mayor Dennis Liles is not running for re-election. The three commissioner seats currently held by Geraldine (Pat) Shackleford, Faye E. Daniels, and Rosa S. Wilkes are on the ballot.
According to Greene County Board of Elections Director Melissa Dixon, Snow Hill is the only municipality in Greene County holding an election this November. The Towns of Hookerton and Walstonburg, along with all local sanitary districts, have moved their elections to even-numbered years.
