Traffic stop leads to discovery of marijuana grow in Jones County
At approximately 12:00 a.m., while JCSO Deputies were conducting a checking station, they noticed a vehicle attempting to evade the checking station. Deputies responded to investigate and located the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, narcotics were found in plain view inside the vehicle. The driver fled on foot, prompting a search of the area with the assistance of K-9 units from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office. Despite efforts, Deputies were unable to locate the suspect.
Separately, during the K-9 track, Deputies discovered an illegal marijuana grow at 5127 NC Highway 58 North. The scene was secured, and Sheriff Matthew J. Wineman, along with investigators and command staff, responded to assist in executing a search warrant.
During the search, Deputies seized 23 marijuana plants, a large quantity of processed marijuana, a Schedule I Controlled Substance, paraphernalia, and multiple firearms. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed in coordination with the District Attorney’s Office.
