Goldsboro man arrested in Kinston shooting
UPDATE
Following the recent shooting incident in the St. Johns area, investigators identified Sentelle Leonard (25 of Goldsboro) as the primary suspect. Detectives secured arrest warrants for Leonard on the following charges:
Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury (AWDWIKISI)
Misdemeanor Domestic Violence
Assault with a Deadly Weapon in the Presence of a Minor
Discharging a Firearm within City Limits
Leonard was later located in the Jack Rountree area by members of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and SWAT. He was taken into custody without incident.
During the arrest, officers recovered the firearm used in the shooting which had been reported stolen out of Goldsboro, North Carolina. As a result, Leonard faces additional charges of:
Felony Carrying a Concealed Gun
Possession of a Stolen Firearm

Shooting Investigation – St. John’s Village Apartments
On July 23, 2025, at approximately 3:59 PM, officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of a female who had been shot inside St. John’s Village Apartments.
The victim was transported for medical treatment and is currently in stable condition.
This incident remains under active investigation, and more details will be released as they become available.
