Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Mourns the Loss of Beloved K9 "Judge"

With deep sadness, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of K9 "Judge," a loyal and dedicated bloodhound who faithfully served our community since October 2018. Judge, who was nearly 9 years old, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, July 20, at the home he shared with his handler, Sgt. E. Carlyle.

K9 Judge was known throughout Lenoir County and beyond for his exceptional tracking abilities and his strong-willed yet playful demeanor. Over the years, he was frequently called upon to assist in critical operations involving missing children, elderly individuals, and the apprehension of criminal suspects.

Judge’s final moments were tender, marked by his familiar, playful sniffs toward his handler—one last reminder of the bond they shared and the dedication he carried throughout his service.

Due to his active-duty status at the time of his passing, a medical examination will be conducted to identify any potential underlying or unknown health conditions. We extend our sincere thanks to Lenoir County Animal Control and the Lenoir County SPCA for their prompt assistance in coordinating an independent veterinary examination.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office asks the community to keep Sgt. Carlyle and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this time of mourning. K9 Judge was more than a partner—he was family.
