Second session of Camp L.E.N.O.I.R. comes to a close at LaGrange Community Center

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office proudly completed the second session of Camp L.E.N.O.I.R. at the LaGrange Community Center, held from June 16–18, 2025. This three-day youth outreach initiative gave middle school students from across the county an immersive experience into the world of public safety and community service.

Campers observed District Court proceedings and had the opportunity to meet with District Court Judge Annette Turik, who spoke to students about the importance of civic responsibility and making positive life choices.

The camp continued with a hands-on impaired driving awareness course presented by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Crash Reduction Team through the Governor’s Highway Safety Program. Students also experienced a K-9 demonstration, toured Sheriff’s Office vehicles, and visited the Lenoir County Jail Facility.

Campers worked hand-in-hand with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT), receiving a demonstration of the specialized tools and equipment used by the unit. This interactive session gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the tactics and technology used in high-risk operations.

Participants also toured the LaGrange Fire Department, where they received hands-on training in vehicle extrication and water operations, gaining valuable insight into emergency response procedures.

The camp concluded with a mock search and rescue operation, where students worked together to apply the knowledge and skills they had learned throughout the week.

Meals were generously provided by Bill’s Grill and Little J’s of LaGrange. Their support helped fuel the campers’ experience and contributed to the overall success of the program.

Sheriff Jackie Rogers expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the program’s success. “Camp L.E.N.O.I.R. is about more than just showing kids what we do—it’s about building trust, inspiring leadership, and investing in the future of our community. I’m incredibly proud of these young people and thankful for the local partners, Town of LaGrange, Mayor Bobby Wooten, Chad Kearney, Engage LA, Inkables and Gardenspot Hardware Store, who made this program possible.”
