LCPS to award diplomas to nearly 600 seniors in four commencement ceremonies this week

Nearly 600 seniors will reach the milestone that is high school graduation next week at commencement exercises scheduled at four LCPS schools. Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2025 at the county’s three traditional high schools will be held in succession on Saturday, June 7. Students at Lenoir County Learning Academy will graduate a day earlier. Here are details about the four graduations:

● Lenoir County Learning Academy: 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, at the chapel at Kennedy Home, where LCLA is housed. Tickets are required for admission. Commencement speaker will be Kim Howell, pastor of Apostolic Deliverance Church of Christ in Kinston and a child nutritionist with Lenoir County Public Schools. Special awards will be presented to the outstanding high school student and the outstanding middle school student, along with the outstanding senior behavior award. Eleven seniors will receive diplomas. LCLA will also hold its Rite of Passage ceremony for current eighth graders moving on to high school.

● South Lenoir High School: 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7, in the school gym. Tickets are required for admission to the gym and the overflow site in the school auditorium. The ceremony will also be live-streamed, with the link posted on the school’s Facebook page. Commencement speakers will be top students Tanner Dawson and Rachel Noble. Special recognition will be given honor graduates, NC Academic Scholars, National Honor Society members and members of the National Technical Honor Society. South Lenoir will graduate 185 seniors.

● Kinston High School: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, in the school gym. Tickets are required for admission. Speakers will be graduating seniors Aniya Sumpter and Jasmine Blackwell. The ceremony will include recognition of honor graduates, NC Academic Scholars, the Kinston High School Viking Scholar and the Kinston High School Academic Scholar. The ceremony will be live-streamed on Kinston High’s Facebook page. Kinston High will graduate 143 seniors.

● North Lenoir High School: 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7, in the gym at Lenoir Community College. Tickets are required for admission. The ceremony will be live-streamed on North Lenoir’s Facebook page. In the student-focused commencement, the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by the class’s Civitan Award winner, the turning of tassels will be led by the SGA president and two high-achieving students will give the welcome and benediction. Special recognition will be given honor graduates, National Honor Society members, NC Governor’s School attendees and high achieving members of FFA, DECA, FCCLA, HOSA and FBLA. North Lenoir will graduate 240 seniors. The 53 seniors in the Class of 2025 at Lenoir County Early College High School graduated May 7. Cutline: Nearly 600 LCPS seniors will bid farewell to high school next week in four commencement ceremonies.
