The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Lions Water Adventure Concession Stand 

2602 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston 

Date: 6/12

Score: 98.5

Can opener visibly soiled. 

Bottom of coolers and inside microwave visibly soiled. 

A/C vents are visibly rusty and accumulating dust. 

Lighting in walk-in fridge is currently out. 

Jo's Cafe

709 Kinston Boulevard, Pink Hill

Observations: 

Breakfast meat cooked this morning sealed tightly in reach in cooler. 

Many surfaces observed to have buildup of grease. Shelving, legs of equipment, and handles of equipment need additional cleaning. 

There are a few broken tiles present in the back storage area and kitchen.

Cutting boards showing visible wear and tear with deep cuts in the finishes.

Observations: 

Shall ensure rules in the code for food safety and handling are met. The person in charge is not making sure the Food Code is being enforced.

Employees shall eat, drink, or use any form of tobacco only in designated areas where the contamination of exposed food, clean equipment and utensils, and other items needing protection can not result. There was one cup with lid and straw on the work surface next to breader station. Employee beverages shall not be stored where they may contaminate food, utensils, or work surfaces. This was discarded.

Green beans on steam table were hot held at 128-131. These were to be taken back and resteamed once the steamers were available.

There was a large pans of Brunswick stew and black eyed peas that exceeded the 7 day hold time.

There is a large number of flies present and one baby roach that was found on the grade card

Two large pans of breader were left uncovered and were not being used at the present time.

If employees have fingernail polish, they shall wear gloves when working with exposed foods.

The can opener should be replaced with ANSI approved opener that easily comes apart for ease of cleaning.

Much of the equipment present is observed to have heavy layers of encrusted grease buildup.

There is a toilet in both the men and ladies restrooms that is out of order.

The dumpster lid was left open.

The floors observed to have heavy grease buildup under all equipment and around the indoor canwash area.
