Two local mental health offices celebrate grand opening as community recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month
As Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close, the Kinston community has a new reason to celebrate. Two local counseling practices—Redefined Counseling Center, PLLC and Inspire Christian Counseling, PLLC—recently held a grand opening and Open House at their new shared location at 1106 West Vernon Avenue in Kinston.
The event, held on Thursday, May 22, brought together local officials, healthcare providers, pastors, and residents for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a celebration of expanded access to mental health services in eastern North Carolina.
“This month is all about reducing stigma, encouraging dialogue, and promoting hope,” said Nicole “Nikki” Lewis, MSW, LCSW, LCAS, CCS, therapist and owner of Redefined Counseling Center. “Our hope is for our offices to provide space that promotes hope and healing for those who are seeking change that can improve their overall wellness. Everyone has a story, and we want to be part of helping those stories represent each person’s resiliency and strength.”
Lewis added, “As a therapist who has a therapist, I believe everyone needs space to grow and heal. That’s our prayer for our community, as we celebrate this new journey.”
Venita Wright-Blake, MS, LMFT, RPT, owner of Inspire Christian Counseling, joined Lewis in welcoming guests and emphasized the importance of providing faith-informed, compassionate mental health care to the community.
The timing of the grand opening was particularly fitting. Mental Health Awareness Month, observed nationally every May since 1949, highlights the importance of accessible mental healthcare. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), one in five adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness each year.
“For too long, mental health has been stigmatized or ignored,” Lewis said. “We’re grateful to be able to offer these resources and create a safe, supportive place where healing can happen. No one should have to suffer alone.”
The new location is now open and accepting new clients. Both Redefined Counseling Center and Inspire Christian Counseling are committed to providing services that address mental, emotional, and spiritual health through evidence-based and compassionate care.
As the community marks both Mental Health Awareness Month and the launch of these two local counseling centers, one message stands out: mental health matters, and Kinston is stepping up to support it.
