Obituary: Yvonne Jacqueline Maynard Kasper
Kinston – Yvonne Jacqueline Maynard Kasper, 88, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Honey’s Assisted Living in Kinston, NC.
A graveside service will be held at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. 164 Longs Plant Farm Rd., Goldsboro, NC 27534
Born on July 27, 1936, in Ethel, West Virginia, Yvonne was the daughter of the late Paul and Elsie Maynard. She graduated from Logan High School in 1954 and proudly enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps later that year, training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. She completed the clerical procedures and typing course in January 1955. She was stationed at Detachment #2, US Army Hospital at West Point, New York, Yvonne received an honorable discharge in 1956.
While serving at West Point, she met the love of her life Andrew Kasper. The two were married on June 2, 1955, and shared 70 devoted years of marriage. Their daughter, Debra Ann, was born on July12, 1959, in Independence, Missouri. During their early years, Yvonne worked at Kansas City Teaching Hospital. The family relocated to Kinston, NC, in 1972 with Walker of NC. Yvonne served as the Administrative Assistant to the President of Walkers until the company was sold. She later retired from the NC Global Transpark in 2001. Never one to be idle, Yvonne generously gave her time as a dedicated volunteer. She was a proud “Pink Lady” at Lenoir Memorial Hospital and lovingly crafter over 40 sock monkeys each month for the children undergoing surgery.
A faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Yvonne served on the Parish board and taught religious education for both teens and adults. She was a member of Beta Signa Phi since 1984, an active participant in the Pilot International Club of Kinston and played a key role in establishing the Anchor Club at Kinston High School.
A former Tri-State Women’s champion with the Grand river’s muzzleloaders club, Yvonne used her skills to give back, volunteering with Lt. Potter of the Kinston Police Department to teach gun safety and marksmanship to women.
Yvone enjoyed a full life enriched by her love of reading, playing bridge with friends, and tending to her garden.
In addition to her parents, Yvonne is proceeded in death by her three brothers, Donald, David Lee, and Darryl Maynard – all who served honorably in the military.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Andrew Kasper; daughter, Debra and husband Mike of Williamston; sister, Charlotte Stovall of Monroe, Georgia; grandson, John Andrew Hardison of Williamston; step-grandson, Michael Hardison of Cherokee, NC; and her cherished great-granddaughters, Arabella and Elaina.
Yvonne’s legacy of service, compassion, and faith will live on in the hands of those who knew and loved her.
